Position Overview

Barrier1 Systems is seeking a self-motivated Draftsman to support our R&D and Engineering teams in the design and development of high-security vehicle barrier systems, including bollards, crash-rated arms, and wedge barriers. The ideal candidate will have advanced AutoCAD skills with the ability to automate drawings, improve efficiency, and translate engineering concepts into precise technical documents that support both product innovation and production.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain detailed 2D and 3D AutoCAD drawings for bollards, wedge barriers, crash-rated arms, and related components.
• Collaborate with engineers and R&D teams to develop and refine new product designs that meet ASTM crash-test standards and customer specifications.
• Automate repetitive drafting processes to accelerate design timelines and maintain consistency across product lines.
• Prepare fabrication-ready drawings and cut lists for shop use, ensuring accuracy and manufacturability.
• Maintain a standardized drawing library for barrier system products and custom projects.
• Support prototype development, including updates to drawings based on R&D testing and field feedback.
• Coordinate with project managers, production, and installation teams to ensure designs align with manufacturing capabilities and site requirements.
• Assist in preparing submittal packages for contractors and end-users.
• Review and update drawings as designs evolve through the R&D and testing process.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D drafting required, 3D experience preferred).
• Ability to automate drafting tasks using AutoLISP, macros, or similar tools.
• Prior experience in metal fabrication, structural drafting, or mechanical design strongly preferred.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, machining, powder coating, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and professional technical documents.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
• Understanding of hydraulics & electrical a plus.
