Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A K-12 school in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students during a leave period. This contract position offers the opportunity to provide specialized services that enhance students' independence and mobility skills within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct assessments to determine students orientation and mobility needs.
• Develop and implement individualized instruction plans tailored to each student's abilities.
• Provide direct training and support to students in various environments around the school to promote safe travel skills.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other specialists to integrate mobility strategies within academic and social settings.
• Maintain detailed documentation of student progress and communicate effectively with the educational team.
• Stay current with best practices and emerging techniques in orientation and mobility services.

Desired Qualifications:

• Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
• Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments.
