We're currently seeking motivated applicants for the position of Dental Assistant 1 or 2 in at our School of Dentistry Oral Surgery Department at our Baton Rouge location.

Job Duties and Other Information
Duties and responsibilities included, but not limited to:
  • To provide chair side assistance to a licensed dentist, residents, and undergrad student in the General Practice Residency Clinic.
  • Assist dentist and dental students with chair side treatment of patients
  • Maintain and stock cabinets/carts
  • Instruct and evaluate students in proper four-handed dentistry techniques
  • Chart patients according to LSUSD systems (Axium, Schick CD Rand computer knowledge)
  • Give follow- up home instructions as directed by dentist or student
  • Implement and maintain infection control in the work area
  • Check inventory and order supplies when needed
  • Implement and follow safety guidelines as set forth by LSUHSC School of Dentistry and OSHA
  • Know dental terminology
  • Know correct nomenclature of all dental instruments
  • Knowledgeable of computers
  • Take x-rays in Schick CDR/CT scans /No Mad
  • Make study models from alginate impressions or use the intra-oral scanner as directed by the dentist or student
  • Take alginate impressions as directed by the dentist or student
  • Take and record pulse, blood pressure, and temperature
  • Place or remove preformed crowns and bands when directed by a dentist or student
  • Remove sutures and ligature ties as directed by the dentist or student

Compensation: There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $15.05 per hour for the Dental Assistant 2 title and $14.06 for the Dental Assistant 1 title with an additional $2.25 per hour worked available for candidates that hold a current DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) certification.

This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.
Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.
This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months
