Purpose:

This position will assist the Small Ruminant State Specialist and the Extension Administrators. It will focus on Animal
Science – Small Ruminants and will provide compelling and impactful research-based educational programming that
meets the assessed needs of low-income limited resources small farmers and producers who are underserved and
unserved.

Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

80% Extension

• Plan, design, implement, teach, and evaluate innovative programming in the area of Animal Science - Small Ruminant
  that demonstrates measurable impact.
• Engage and collaborate with communities, private entities, commercial organizations, and local, county, state, and
  federal governments to deliver cutting-edge programming. Expected to interact with other extension staff in the area.
• Offer group workshops, field days, clinics, and one-and-one educational experiences to small farmers and producers
  utilizing research-based information.

20% Research

• Knowledge in molecular work (Primer design, gel electrophoresis, RNA extraction, SDS-PAGE, PCR, qPCR, and other
  molecular assays).
• Willing to learn metabolomic work. Able to assist field and lab work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Valid driver's license.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Ability to work as part of a larger team.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor from an accredited university in Animal Science or a closely related field and 3+ years of molecular
  research experience.
• Masters (animal science, cell biology, agriculture, or closely related field) with research experience in molecular
  work.
• PhD (animal science, cell biology, agriculture, or closely related field) with research experience in molecular
  work.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Sheep and goat producer.
• Worked with sheep and goat producers in Missouri.
• Demonstrated success conducting educational sessions via distance learning with social media.
• Molecular research experience.

Physical Demands:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at the desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to sit a minimum of 25 lbs.
• Ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels, equipment, and tools.
• Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on a farm.
• Normal physical agility, which includes the ability to maneuver the body while in place.
• Normal physical strength to handle routine farm equipment and tolls.
