Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university Valid Texas certification as a Vision Teacher – preferred Valid certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist as granted by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of the special needs of students with vision impairments Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee processes and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate Terms Of Employment Probationary/Term Contract: 187 Days Salary Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees Additional stipend as approved Additional information: Essential Functions Teach visually impaired students to develop the skills and knowledge required to travel safely and independently Transport students to diverse locations to teach practical travel skills in realistic environments Evaluate visually impaired students for orientation and mobility needs and determine eligibility for services Participate in the ARD committee to interpret assessment data, determine appropriate placement, and set goals for students with visual impairments Plan and provide individual and group instruction aligned with orientation and mobility goals in IEPs Track student progress and use evaluative findings to assess program effectiveness and recommend changes when appropriate Modify and adapt materials to teach and explain concepts and mobility skills to visually impaired students Consult with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure student safety and reinforce skills throughout the day Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function Working Conditions Tools / Equipment used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment Posture: Frequent, prolonged standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking and movement Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); may lift and move equipment and classroom materials Environment: Frequent exposure to sun, heat, cold, and outdoor work; frequent exposure to noise Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may involve irregular hours and frequent travel, including travel by school bus Application Information Applications will be reviewed.
