Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A K-12 educational institution in Richmond, TX is seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students with visual impairments during a leave contract. This role is ideal for a professional dedicated to enhancing student independence and mobility skills within a dynamic school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility training plans for students with visual impairments.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to integrate mobility strategies into the educational curriculum.
• Provide direct instruction to students to improve safe and effective travel skills in various settings.
• Conduct assessments to evaluate student progress and adapt programs accordingly.
• Maintain thorough documentation and communicate regularly with the educational team about student needs and achievements.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments.
• Strong knowledge of mobility aids, techniques, and adaptive technology.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, families, and school personnel.
• Ability to work independently and tailor approaches to diverse student needs.
