Role Summary

The newly created U.S. Chief Operating Officer (COO) will serve as a senior executive leader of a high-growth, U.S.-based pharmaceutical organization, responsible for driving operational excellence, commercial success, and long-term strategic direction. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will oversee a broad portfolio including the Commercial organization, Medical Affairs, and other functional areas as directed by the CEO that are critical to the Companys success.

In addition to managing operations, the COO will also be crucial in driving topline results, while bolstering the organizational culture, strengthening the leadership team, and cultivating a high-achieving, patient-focused atmosphere based on cooperation, responsibility, and inclusivity. As a member of the U.S. executive leadership team (US Strategic Council), this leader will not only serve as chair of the US Strategic Council, which will be accountable for driving enterprise decisions but also act as a visible representative to external stakeholders such as payers, advocates, regulators, customers, and strategic partners while assisting the Company in navigating its upcoming stages of innovation, market expansion, and organizational transformation. Key will also be to increase patient access to our portfolio of innovative, best-in-class medications.

This individual will play a key role in shaping Company culture, ensuring cross-functional alignment, and leading the organization through the next phase of innovation, M&A and rapid growth within the pharmaceutical sector. Both an enterprise and positive growth mindset will be key to this individuals success in this position.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the U.S. business strategy in alignment with global priorities and therapeutic focus areas.
  • Partner with the CEO to define long-term vision, annual operating plans, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment, disciplined governance, and delivery of enterprise objectives.
  • Shape long-term portfolio, investment, and organizational priorities to sustain growth in primary therapeutic areas.
  • Encourage operational excellence through cross-functional accountability, strong performance management, and rigorous execution. Ensure the U.S. P&L meets its operational, financial, and strategic goals.
  • Anticipate market, regulatory, and scientific trends that could impact the business; proactively adjust strategies to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Serve as a role model for the Companys values and culture, fostering an environment of integrity, innovation, and inclusion.
  • Encourage the combination of data-driven decision-making, real-world evidence, and digital technologies/AI to improve operational efficiency, medical impact, and commercial efficacy.
  • Oversee risk management and compliance procedures for all U.S. activities, making sure they adhere to industry standards, corporate policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead enterprise transformation projects that improve organizational agility, scalability, and innovation in the face of changing scientific and market conditions.

Commercial & Market

  • Ensure strategies for Serviers commercial assets are ambitious, competitive, and aligned with patient and provider needs.
  • Accountability for market positioning, delegating execution to commercial leadership and launch readiness, as required.
  • To promote smooth execution, make sure that commercial initiatives are well integrated with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Regulatory, and R&D.
  • Encourage patient-centered commercialization tactics that strike a balance between accessibility, clinical value, and long-term financial viability. Ensure that patient and provider choices are reflected in omni-channel marketing and digital engagement tactics.
  • Shape payer, access, and pricing strategies through oversight and strategic input, ensuring competitive advantage without being involved in day-to-day operations.

Medical Affairs

  • Provide strategic oversight of Medical Affairs, ensuring that scientific engagement, evidence generation, and compliance support business goals.
  • Ensure robust scientific exchange, medical strategy development, and compliance in alignment with industry standards and ethical frameworks.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of the payer, provider, regulatory, and policy aspects of the US healthcare system to inform strategy and impact results.
  • Serve as a thought partner to R&D and clinical leaders on portfolio direction and external engagement strategy.
  • Champion the Companys credibility in oncology and neurology by supporting medical leadership in building trusted relationships with KOLs, advocacy groups, and professional societies.
  • Champion a high-performance, patient-centric culture rooted in collaboration, integrity, and inclusion.
  • Develop and mentor senior leaders, ensuring strong succession planning and leadership continuity.
  • Foster organizational agility to adapt to market shifts, therapeutic advancements, and competitive pressures.
  • Promote an environment where innovation and accountability are balanced to deliver both near-term results and long-term impact.
  • In order to represent the diversity of consumers and healthcare providers treated, incorporate inclusion concepts into business culture, talent strategy, and community engagement.

External Representation:

  • Act as a senior representative with external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, regulators, advocacy organizations, strategic partners, and the investment community.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), payer organizations, and patient advocacy groups in oncology and neurology.
  • Serve as a trusted spokesperson for the Companys mission, products, and vision.

Education and Required Skills

  • MBA or other advanced degree required. Scientific background preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, with a significant commercial product and operational background.
  • Deep expertise in oncology and/or neurology markets is highly preferred, including product launches, lifecycle management, and payer dynamics.
  • Demonstrated success in leading multidisciplinary teams, preferably across Commercial, Medical, and enabling functions.
  • Demonstrated capacity for teamwork and leadership in intricate, multi-layered, international settings.
  • Ability to guide organizations through growth circumstances, operations scaling, or transformative change.
  • Proven P&L ownership experience with strong track record of delivering superior revenue and operational performance.
  • Experience speaking on behalf of the business to external parties such as investors, regulators, board of directors, and/or strategic partners.
  • In-depth knowledge of FDA regulations, compliance requirements, and healthcare policy landscape.
  • Thorough knowledge of the dynamics of payers, providers, policies, and reimbursement in the US healthcare system.
  • Adept at using technology, data analytics, and digital tools to propel the Companys transformation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, executive presence, and ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Country GM or similar leadership role preferred

Travel and Location

  • 40% travel required (international and domestic)
  • Boston-based, hybrid role with 3 days a week required on-site
